The project Kataunas is an attempt to establish a cultural dialogue between the two cities of Kaunas and Catania, respectively in Lithuania and Italy. The title playfully mixes and confuses the names of the two cities, as the exhibitions will do with the art and the artists.
Kataunas is structured as a work in progress, ending in two exhibitions at the partner institutions, Meno Parkas in Kaunas and Mediatank in Catania. Some of the invited artists will produce new works on the occasion of the project. The project intends to stimulate mutual curiosity and an exchange between two distant regions of Europe, in order to establish cultural ties. Art becomes a means to look at the “other” and possibly discover the “self”.
Kaunas and Catania may be closer than expected, after all.
