So what's Rhiz.eu?
An intercultural meeting place developed to give its members an easy and fun environment for communicating and collaborating with each other. It takes its name from a botanical term, rhizome, meaning ‘a usually underground, horizontal stem of a plant that often sends out roots and shoots from its nodes’ (Wikipedia): the term is used metaphorically in the social sciences and new media to describe social structures that are non-hierarchical, non-centralised, self-regulating, and formed peer-to-peer. Rhiz.eu was created by the European Cultural Foundation (ECF).
What's the ECF?
An Amsterdam-based foundation that stimulates and promotes cultural cooperation and strong cultural policies across the broader Europe and its neighbouring regions. You can find out more about us by visiting our profile on Rhiz.eu and our website.

Why did the ECF create Rhiz.eu?
The ECF celebrates the cultural richness and diversity in and around Europe. Rhiz.eu is one of the activities developed as part of our focus on diversity in the lead-up to (but going beyond) the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. It is a trans-European project that aims to be an interesting artistic project in itself while acting as a bridge between communities. We expect to gather loads of profiles, stories, project info – and to have vivid discussions.
