Association “Green Wave” – non-profit non-governmental organization – was founded in 1995. Its main objective is to advocate principles of democracy and strengthen development of civil society by supporting NGO sector popularization in Georgia.

Radio “Green Wave” takes active participation in achievement and accomplishment of the Association goals. All the projects and activities of Association “Green Wave” are realized with help of Radio “Green Wave”, that is why the mission and activities of Association “Green Wave” and Radio “Green Wave” are inseparable.

The programs are primarily targeted at the age group between 24 and 65. The music programs are based on the most popular music from the last thirty years. Besides, we air news, thematic and educational programs, our entertaining radio games, traffic reports, etc

TARGET AUDIENCE

Population of Adjara, Tbilisi, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Kakheti, Imereti, Samegrelo and Guria who are less aware of its civil, political and social rights;
There are approximately 4 500 000 people living within Green Wave coverage area
Religious and ethnic minorities
Non-governmental organizations
Youth
Self-government and central government

PRIORITY AREAS

Strengthening the development of civic society in Georgia;
Development of environmental awareness in Georgian society;
Popularization of NGO sector in Georgia;
Promotion of co-operation between governmental, non-governmental and business sectors;
Development of independent mass media in Georgia;
Contribution to establishment of integrated information space for the South Caucasus region.

GENERAL ACTIVITIES

To assist strengthening civil society (thematic programs and social advertisement rollers)
To support cooperation of independent radio stations (Georgian Radio Network has been established)
Implementing joint projects with international and local NGOs. The main activity of the Association Green Wave is to implement programs and projects supporting interests of the civil society and democracy by means of its owned radio station.
The main directions of the Association and Radio Green Wave’ s policy are defense of human rights, popularization of the rule of law, monitoring of the government and support of public involvement in the decision making process. Each program and project implemented by the Association and Radio Green Wave comes into accordance with the above policy.

Awards

Award for Excellence was granted to Radio “Green Wave” from Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty.
The special Prize of Azerbaijan National Committee of Helsinki Civil Assembly “for objectivity and professionalism in coverage the programs on human rights” - the project “We work together “Strengthening Direct Cooperation between Independent Radio Stations of South Caucasus - 2004“ International Media Bridge Baku-Tbilisi-Erevan.

Networks founded by “Green Wave”

Georgian Radio Network
GRN — Georgian Radio Network was founded on March 2, 2001. GRN unifies Green wave and four FM regional independent radio stations. The network primary goal is to support democracy processes in the country through radio network broadcasting development. As well as to assist public in getting involved in decision making process and improving the information flow regarding the local needs.

Caucasus Europe News Exchange Network
CENEN—Caucasus Europe News Exchange Network - Link between Europe and Caucasus. Independent radio producers from 13 European and Caucasus countries have established CENEN to share locally produced programs, radio reports and features to set up a common communication platform for development of a new information bridge linking the South Caucasus and Europe. The first Caucasus Conference on Radio Cooperation was held July 9-15, 2003, in Bakuriani, Georgia for the creation of CENEN. The conference was organized in the framework of the “Radio Bridge between the South Caucasus Countries” project implemented by the Radio Green Wave (Tbilisi, Georgia) in cooperation with the Radio Van (Yerevan, Armenia) and the Radio Space (Baku, Azerbaijan), and funded by the Eurasia Foundation. The audience of the CENEN member stations widens to include a more international public.
