Rotterdamse Schouwburg
De Internationale Keuze
The Rotterdamse Schouwburg is the city theatre of Rotterdam, built in 1988 by Dutch architect Wim Quist, presenting a fine selection of theatre, dance, opera and youth theatre from the Netherlands and Belgium.
The theatre is known for it's international programme, esp. during its festival the Internationale Keuze, but also for its participation in festivals like the Operadagen Rotterdam, Motel Mozaique, Poetry International, Dancing on the Edge and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. It is part of the European network Next Step.
Unique is the fact that it has a production house under its roof, Productiehuis Rotterdam. This producing branche of the theatre invests in emerging theatre artists like Sarah Moeremans, Edit Kaldor, Simone Aughterlony, Chris Kondek, Joachim Robbrecht, Nicola Unger and Nataliya Golofastova. It produced the young collective Wunderbaum over the past 4 years, who remains a resident company in the house.
