The Department for cultural policy is one of the five departments through which the activities of the Committee for Civic Initiative are organized.

Beginning with 2002, when this department was established, four projects have been realized which have engaged practically and theoretically with cultural policy issues („Cultural Needs, Habits, Taste of the Citizens of Serbia“; „Transfrontier Cooperation in the Triangle Nis – Sofia – Skopje”, “Cultural Needs, Habits and Taste of the Citizens of Serbia and Macedonia“ and the pilot phase of the project „Gold Mine“).

At the moment we are realizing the project „Re-Opening a Gold Mine – the Building of Capacities of Local Cultural Policy Actors in Southeast Serbia” which is the largest project undertaken thus far by the department for cultural policy of the Committee for Civic Initiative.

The project will last from January 2008. to December 2010, and its realization is financially supported by the Swiss Cultural Program (SCP) and the Swiss Development Council (SDC). The aim of the project is to create conditions for the sustainable improvement of cultural life in five regional centers of southeast Serbia (Niš, Leskovac, Vranje, Pirot and Zaječar) through the capacity building of key institutional and non-institutional cultural policy actors, the establishment of mechanisms of their mutual cooperation within and between cities from the region of southeast Serbia and their entering into the process of cultural exchange with other cities in Serbia (and the Western Balkans region).
