AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry (AREFS art and culture association) is located in the country side of eastern Finland.

The cultural organization will develop the artistic and cultural diversity in the rural area of east Finland.
AREFS is planning and organizing art and culture projects for the local society. It invites national and international artists to stay for a residence period in the country side.
AREFS supports new activities for the national heritage SAKSALANHARJU-KIRKONKYLÄ. Saksalanharju is located on the biggest monolith of Europe and is an ancient settlement site with tranquil landscape, designed with fields, forests and lake. This authentic rural area has a pure and traditional culture, based on agriculture and forestry. The village has a multicultural mix of inhabitants.
With exhibitions and projects about the history and future of Haukivuori AREFS gives attention to the past and the future.
With partners in different countries AREFS has started to cooperate and is building a network.
