Jeunesses Musicales International
Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) is a non-profit, non-governmental international association with formal relations to UNESCO and other cross-border institutions.
JMI seeks to empower young people through music - as musicians, listeners and organisers. JMI is a 'global' organisation - locally active and with a global presence - and providing meaningful, high-quality musical activities for young people is the "raison d'etre" of the JMI network.
JMI was created in 1945 and has ever since been a pioneer organisation, adapting to the ever-changing needs and interests of young people in the field of music. As each national member organisation is an independent, non-profit legal entity serving the specific needs of its country, JMI truly represents "unity in diversity" - all united through the JMI Mission.
JMI and it’s Youth Empowerment Working Group co-ordinates projects, where music works a tool for social enhancement. E.g. Music Bridges Conference, the Arab-Jewish Youth orchestra, Black Community Integration Program in the Netherlands, Music Crossroads Southern Africa.
JMI promotes Young Musicians in concerts and festivals and it offers young amateurs and professionals competitions, workshops, music camps and music academies to share and learn new skills.
The JMI network has over 2000 Youth Orchestras and Ensembles. JMI unites musicians from all over the world in the JMI World Orchestra, the World Youth Choir, the World of Winds and the JM Jazz World.
JMI reaches more than 5 million Young Audiences per year with its concerts and events. JMI and its YA Working Group organize regular conferences and workshops.
