"Laboratory for visual arts-LAB is ngo that deals with contemporary arts and culture. During the past four years as a part of Missing identity project main focus was at educational projects and promoting young artists.
Now LAB has a space called Rizoma which came as a result of restructuring of the Missing Identity project, the Institute for Contemporary Arts ""Exit" from Peja, the Visual Arts Laboratory, the Gani Bobi Center for Humanistic Studies have initiated the creation of a new space as a need for a location where artists and young people can express freely in the manner in which they feel they should. The location at hand will attempt to be not only an art-gallery that is the product of the Exit gallery in Peja, but will consist of different kinds of contents from what is called contemporary communications.
The space is located in Prishtina and has been named Rizoma-the space for contemporary communications."
The concept of Rhizome was developed by G.Deluze and P.Guattari in their book Thousand Plateaus. In botany, rhizome denominate certain vegetables which have specific roots that are capable of vegetative reproduction from themselves. For Deluze and Guattari, the rhizome becomes a metaphor for the overthrow of hierarchical thinking. “We’re tired of trees,” writes Deluze. “We should stop believing in trees, roots, and radicles. They’ve made us suffer too much… Trees are genealogical, where by contrast “the rhizome is an anti-genealogy…” The hierarchical structure of the tree has dominated western society (for example, the hierarchy of corporations, of the government, the military chain of command). With Rhizome, each part of the structure is connected with the other parts. There is therefore no beginning and no end, no down and no up – everywhere is the beginning and the center. There is no longer a tripartite division between a field of reality (the world), a field of representation (the book) and a field of subjectivity (the author). The concept of Rhizome represents a system with no center, no hierarchy, and is defined only as a circulation of conditions.
