I am a Belgian biologist with a PhD degree (in bird population ecology) from the University of Joensuu, in Eastern Finland. I am now working as a free-lance nature photographer and film-maker, with a book and a documentary film on Finnish ancient forests in preparation. In particular, I am much interested in the values of old-growth forests for biodiversity and the cultural identity of the Nordic people. Actually, I simply feel great when I am given the opportunity to walk around (and loose myself) in pristine forest environment, home for the most exciting wildlife and mind-blowing sceneries.
Among recent professional highlights, I could mention that five-year position (2001-2005) I occupied as a project coordinator for the Ministry of the French-speaking part of Belgium, my contribution as organiser of the 6th International Woodpecker Symposium, held in Finland in 2005, the opportunity to work as a nature photographer from 2007 with the financial help of the Finnish Cultural Foundation, or the first price I won at the 2007 Canon international nature photo competition.
Moreover, with a short movie on Finnish forest wildlife, I won the award for the best new entry at the Belgian (Namur) Nature Movie Festival 2005. My second non-professional production entitled “Requiem for the Taiga” was chosen to be screened at the Wildlife Vaasa 2006 international nature film festival. This short movie was selected as well among finalists at the 2007 French Abbeville bird film festival. Finally, in October of the same year, the same short subject was broadcasted on RTBF, the first TV channel of the French-speaking part of Belgium.
